Pharmaceutical Technologist

About the role

The Pharmaceutical Technologist will ensure safe, accurate dispensing of medicines and maintain optimal pharmacy inventory at St. Crispin Afya Hospital. You will work closely with prescribers, nurses and patients to support high‑quality pharmaceutical services.

Key responsibilities

• Receive, verify and dispense prescriptions in line with approved standards and procedures.
• Conduct regular stock‑taking, reconcile physical stock with system records and report variances.
• Maintain up‑to‑date stock records, monitor levels and initiate timely requisitions to avoid stock‑outs or wastage.
• Identify and manage slow‑moving, expired, damaged or near‑expiry medicines.
• Compound extemporaneous preparations and prepare intravenous medications according to protocols.
• Counsel patients on medication use, dosage, adherence and side‑effects.
• Deliver discharge medications to wards and document all transactions.
• Communicate out‑of‑stock items to prescribers, suggest alternatives and arrange procurement.
• Ensure proper storage, handling and compliance with pharmaceutical, environmental health and safety regulations.
• Participate in periodic inventory counts and investigate discrepancies.

Required profile

• Diploma in Pharmaceutical Technology from a recognised institution.
• Valid practising licence from the Pharmacy and Poisons Board (PPB).
• At least one year of experience in a busy healthcare facility.
• Computer literate with experience using pharmacy/HMIS systems (preferred).
