Postdoctoral Fellow – Land & Forest Tenure Reforms

About the role

The World Agroforestry Centre (ICRAF) is looking for a Postdoctoral Fellow to advance research on land and forest tenure reforms. The fellow will provide scientific guidance, develop partnerships, and support capacity‑building initiatives within CIFOR’s forest governance programmes.

Key responsibilities

• Provide scientific guidance ensuring research concepts and methods meet the highest standards.
• Collaborate with theme coordinators and leaders to define and implement emerging research activities.
• Write, supervise, and disseminate scientific publications and communications.
• Lead and supervise project capacity‑building initiatives.
• Mentor and supervise students, junior scientists, and staff.
• Represent CIFOR at national, regional, and global forums on forest governance.
• Develop and maintain constructive partnerships with stakeholders.
• Identify and secure additional funding for relevant research areas.
• Plan, monitor, and manage research activities, including budgeting.
• Coordinate and contribute to donor reporting.

Required profile

• PhD in a relevant discipline (e.g., natural resource management, social sciences).
• Experience in collaborative natural resource management or social‑science research.
• Strong publication record, especially in peer‑reviewed journals.
• Proven ability to develop and manage research budgets.
• Demonstrated success in resource mobilization, fundraising, and proposal development.
• Fluent spoken and written English; additional international language(s) an advantage.
• Experience working with multiple partners and conducting fieldwork in developing countries.
• Ability to work effectively in multicultural, multidisciplinary research teams.
