About the role
Tatu City is seeking an experienced Power Engineer to lead the design, construction, and maintenance of its electrical networks. The role covers low, medium and high voltage systems, as well as renewable energy installations such as solar PV and storage, ensuring compliance with all standards and safety regulations.
Key responsibilities
- Prepare engineering studies, specifications, designs, drawings and bills of quantities for power system projects.
- Supervise construction, installation, testing, commissioning and maintenance of voltage networks and associated equipment.
- Operate and maintain overhead, underground, indoor and outdoor distribution and transmission infrastructure.
- Design, implement and manage renewable energy systems, including solar PV and energy storage.
- Prepare technical tender documents, evaluate bids and support procurement activities.
- Monitor system performance, improve safety, efficiency and availability.
- Ensure compliance with electrical standards, regulatory requirements and HSE policies.
- Manage projects, contractors and technical teams to deliver works on time and within budget.
Required profile
- Minimum eight (8) years of hands‑on experience in design, construction, testing, commissioning, operation and maintenance of power utility infrastructure.
- Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or equivalent.
- Registered Professional Engineer or Graduate Engineer with the Engineers Board of Kenya and member of the Institution of Engineers of Kenya.
- Licensed Electrical Worker (Class B or higher) and preferably a Licensed Solar PV Technician (Class T3).
- Proven experience with low, medium and high voltage systems and solar PV/renewable projects.
- Demonstrated ability to lead, mentor and develop technical teams and contractors.
Required skills
- Power system studies and analysis using ETAP, DIgSILENT PowerFactory, CYME or equivalent.
- Load flow, short‑circuit, protection coordination and system modelling.
- Proficiency in AutoCAD, PVsyst and other engineering design software.
- Design and integration of solar photovoltaic and energy storage solutions.
