Programme Accountant – Financial Management & Grant Oversight

About the role

The Programme Accountant will lead financial management and grant oversight for Trocaire’s Somalia programme, based in Nairobi with regular field travel to the Gedo region. This role combines rigorous accounting, donor compliance, and partner‑capacity building to ensure effective use of donor‑funded resources.

Key responsibilities

• Provide comprehensive grant management for donor‑funded projects, ensuring compliance with Trócaire and donor requirements (e.g., FCDO, Irish Aid, ECHO, UN).
• Monitor project budgets, expenditures, cash flows and forecasts using Agresso (Unit4) and Salesforce, making timely adjustments.
• Prepare accurate financial and donor reports, including variance analyses and narrative justifications.
• Coordinate project audits, maintain audit trackers and support corrective actions.
• Conduct monthly reconciliations of budget vs. actuals and advise management on variances.
• Support partner capacity building through financial assessments, risk profiling, and tailored training on reporting, procurement and internal controls.
• Validate partner financial reports, fund requests and reconciliation statements for accuracy and donor compliance.

Required profile

• Relevant accounting or finance qualification (e.g., CPA, ACCA, degree in Finance/Accounting).
• Experience in NGO or donor‑funded project finance, preferably with grant management.
• Strong analytical skills and ability to work independently in a field‑based environment.
