Programme Associate – WASH, Shelter & Settlements (Humanitarian)

About the role

DG ECHO is seeking a Programme Associate to support its humanitarian response in water, sanitation, hygiene (WASH), shelter and settlements. The role is based in Nairobi and contributes to effective programme delivery, monitoring and evaluation across the region.

Key responsibilities

• Assist in appraisal, monitoring and evaluation of projects, including financial assessments.
• Review partners’ reports, prepare operational documents and support the Technical Assistant in fiche‑ops preparation.
• Draft humanitarian situation reports and produce information briefs for internal and external audiences.
• Participate in meetings, liaise with local authorities and maintain contact with implementing partners.
• Provide back‑stopping and surge support, including field visits and map preparation.

Required profile

• Relevant first‑level university degree (e.g., water engineering) or equivalent professional experience.
• Minimum 5 years experience in WASH, shelter & settlements, with at least 2 years in an NGO, UN, donor or similar organisation.
• Strong knowledge of the EU humanitarian aid system and international humanitarian standards.
• Excellent written and spoken English; French is an asset.

• Proficiency with MS Word.
• Proficiency with MS Excel.

What we offer

• Fixed‑term contract of one year, renewable based on performance.
• Monthly basic salary of KES 350,795 (subject to experience).
• Disability/retirement allowance, 13th month salary and medical coverage.
