Regional Legal Counsel

About the role

We are looking for a commercially‑minded Regional Legal Counsel to join the Africa Hub legal team of Eleving Group. Based in Nairobi, the role supports corporate and commercial legal matters across multiple African jurisdictions, offering significant cross‑border exposure and visibility at Group level.

Key responsibilities

• Draft, review, and negotiate commercial contracts, including financing agreements, vendor contracts, and service agreements.
• Oversee contract management systems and standardisation to ensure consistent contracting across the region.
• Provide practical legal advice to business units on commercial and operational matters.
• Work cross‑functionally with business teams to identify and mitigate legal risks.
• Support regulatory and compliance matters as needed.
• Develop internal legal policies and processes for the region.
• Oversee corporate governance processes, corporate records, and board/shareholder matters.
• Coordinate external counsel across the region when required.
• Assist the Regional Head of Legal and Compliance with additional legal or compliance tasks.

Required profile

• Master of Laws (LLM) degree from a recognised institution.
• Bachelor of Laws (LLB) as the underlying qualification.
• Minimum 5 years of post‑admission legal experience.
• Prior in‑house experience in financial services, fintech or other regulated sectors is an advantage.
• Demonstrated experience drafting and negotiating commercial contracts.
• Multi‑jurisdictional legal experience, especially in African markets, is a plus.
