Risk and Compliance Manager

About the role

The Risk & Compliance Manager will establish, implement and sustain a robust risk and compliance framework across VisionFund Kenya. This role ensures effective identification, assessment, mitigation and monitoring of operational, credit and regulatory risks while safeguarding institutional integrity and promoting a strong risk culture.

Key responsibilities

• Lead operational and credit risk management frameworks across branches and departments, including fraud prevention and internal control compliance.
• Conduct branch and portfolio risk reviews, perform root‑cause analysis for credit losses and oversee investigations into irregularities.
• Develop and maintain an enterprise‑wide risk management and compliance framework aligned with regulatory, donor and VisionFund International standards.
• Serve as Money Laundering Reporting Officer (MLRO) and liaise with regulators, ensuring compliance with AML/CFT, data protection, digital credit provider and unclaimed financial assets regulations.
• Prepare annual risk and compliance work plans, budgets and quarterly reports for the Board Risk & Audit Committee and VisionFund International.
• Track internal audit recommendations and drive timely closure of audit issues.
• Design and deliver risk and compliance training programmes, building risk champions within branches and departments.

Required profile

• Bachelor's degree in Business, Finance, Accounting or a related field; professional certification (CPA, ACCA, CIA, CISA, CRMA) preferred.
• Minimum five years' experience in risk, compliance or internal audit within the micro‑finance or financial services sector.
• Demonstrated expertise in credit risk assessment, operational risk control and regulatory compliance.
• Strong leadership, analytical, communication and influencing abilities.
• High integrity, meticulous attention to detail and the ability to balance compliance with business objectives.
