School Counselor (Full time / Part time)

About the role

The School Counselor at Sankoré supports student well‑being, belonging and holistic development within a diverse school community. Reporting to the Head of Support and Belonging, the role blends individual counseling, system‑building and community engagement while upholding the school’s values of dignity, equity and student agency.

Key responsibilities

• Provide individual and small‑group counseling addressing social‑emotional development, mental health challenges, behavioral concerns and peer relationships.
• Maintain confidential records, develop individualized support plans and intervene proactively on early warning signs.
• Serve as a safeguarding point of contact, identify and escalate abuse or neglect cases in line with school policies.
• Design and deliver school‑wide social‑emotional learning (SEL) programs and integrate well‑being practices into the school culture.
• Promote inclusion by supporting students navigating identity, marginalisation and exclusion, and facilitate student voice initiatives.
• Engage families as partners, provide guidance on emotional and behavioural needs, and connect them to external resources.
• Contribute to multi‑tiered support systems (MTSS) using data‑driven interventions across universal, targeted and intensive levels.

Required profile

• Experience delivering individual and group counseling to students across grade levels.
• Knowledge of safeguarding procedures and ability to handle confidential cases sensitively.
• Ability to design and implement SEL curricula and whole‑school well‑being initiatives.
• Strong collaboration skills with teachers, leadership and external partners.
• Cultural sensitivity and competence in working with diverse family contexts.
