Security Manager

About the role

The Security Manager will develop and implement the organisation’s security strategy, lead risk assessments, and ensure the safety of staff, shelters and facilities across Nairobi and field locations.

Key responsibilities

• Develop and execute the annual security work plan and maintain a security risk register.
• Establish security standards for offices, shelters, field sites, staff travel and programme activities.
• Conduct regular physical, operational, environmental, digital and contextual risk assessments and recommend mitigation measures.
• Oversee security protocols for shelters and safe houses, ensuring access‑control systems and confidentiality of resident information.
• Manage physical security arrangements, including perimeter security, lighting, locks, alarms and security guard deployment.
• Advise the Executive Director and senior management on emerging security risks and provide recommendations before deployments to high‑risk areas.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Security Management, Risk Management, Criminology, International Security, Disaster Management, Emergency Management or a related field.
• Minimum 7 years of relevant experience in security, risk management or safety, preferably within an NGO, humanitarian or international development context.
• At least 3 years of supervisory or management experience.
• Proven experience conducting security and risk assessments and developing organisational security policies.
• Experience managing security personnel, service providers and developing emergency response and business continuity plans.
• Strong knowledge of the Kenyan security and operating environment and high level of integrity, discretion and confidentiality.
