Senior FOSA Accountant

About the role

The Senior FOSA Accountant will lead the accounting function for the Financial Operations and Savings Account (FOSA) department, ensuring accurate financial reporting, compliance with regulatory standards, and robust internal controls within a SACCO or micro‑finance environment.

Key responsibilities

• Prepare and analyse monthly, quarterly and annual financial statements, including balance sheets, income statements and cash‑flow statements.
• Manage general ledger functions, post and review journal entries, and resolve account discrepancies promptly.
• Prepare reconciliation schedules, account analyses and supporting documentation for management review and audit purposes.
• Coordinate with internal and external auditors, compile audit files and support tax compliance processes.
• Assist the FOSA Manager with financial forecasting, budget variance analysis and departmental budget monitoring.
• Supervise, train and appraise junior accountants and clerical staff, ensuring quality output and professional development.
• Evaluate and improve accounting procedures to strengthen internal controls and operational efficiency.
• Ensure strict adherence to GAAP, IFRS and applicable SASRA and SACCO regulatory requirements.
• Prepare periodic management reports and reconciliation schedules for senior management review.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in a business‑related field from a recognised university.
• CPA qualification is an advantage; ICPAK membership preferred.
• 3 to 5 years of progressive accounting experience, preferably in a SACCO, micro‑finance institution or regulated financial environment.
• Strong analytical thinking, numerical accuracy and attention to detail.
• Effective supervisory and mentoring abilities with high professional integrity.

Required skills

• Proficiency in Microsoft Excel.
• Working knowledge of ERP or accounting software such as SAP, Oracle or QuickBooks.
