Senior Mechanic

About the role

Takataka Solutions is seeking an experienced Senior Mechanic to lead its workshop in Westlands, Nairobi. You will be responsible for ensuring high equipment uptime, mentoring a team of mechanics, and driving continuous improvement in maintenance processes.

Key responsibilities

• Lead and mentor mechanics, optimizing labor utilization and establishing best practices.
• Maintain 85%+ equipment uptime for trucks, wheel loaders, forklifts, and company vehicles.
• Conduct diagnostics, troubleshoot basic failures, and oversee preventive maintenance schedules.
• Create daily and weekly maintenance plans, track work orders, and ensure accurate documentation in the vehicle tracker.
• Coordinate parts procurement with the purchasing team and manage spare‑parts inventory.
• Ensure compliance with governmental standards (e.g., NTSA) and schedule mandatory truck inspections.
• Provide technical advice to drivers and logistics staff to extend equipment life and reduce fuel/repair costs.
• Contribute to workshop budgeting and quarterly financial planning.

Required profile

• Degree, diploma or vocational training in Automotive Engineering.
• Minimum 5 years of experience as a Workshop Supervisor or Senior Mechanic.
• Valid driving licence.
• Proven ability to lead a workshop team and manage performance.
