Senior Mechanical Engineer

About the role

Tatu City is seeking a highly skilled Senior Mechanical Engineer to lead the design and implementation of mechanical systems across large‑scale building projects. The role covers HVAC, plumbing, drainage and fire protection for high‑rise, commercial and industrial developments.

Key responsibilities

• Lead comprehensive mechanical system design, including HVAC, plumbing, drainage and fire protection, and produce detailed drawings and specifications.
• Perform heating and cooling load analysis, energy modelling and hydraulic simulations to optimise system performance and ensure code compliance.
• Act as the technical authority during construction, handling RFIs, reviewing contractor submittals and conducting site inspections.
• Oversee commissioning, verify system performance and ensure smooth handover to clients and facilities teams.
• Mentor junior engineers, delegate tasks and develop internal design standards and workflows.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering (Master’s preferred) and a Professional Engineer (PE) licence.
• Minimum 10 years of experience designing mechanical building services for large commercial, residential or industrial projects.
• Proven expertise in HVAC, plumbing, fire protection and complex mechanical systems such as central plants, hydronic and VRF systems.
• Knowledge of international and Kenyan building codes and standards (ASHRAE, NFPA, IPC).
