Senior Project Developer – Utility Scale

About the role

We are seeking a Senior Project Developer to lead end‑to‑end development of utility‑scale solar PV and battery energy storage (BESS) projects across Africa. Based in Nairobi, Kenya, the role will own projects from site identification through permitting, financial close and handover to implementation.

Key responsibilities

• Lead development of utility‑scale solar PV and BESS projects from origination to construction readiness.
• Identify and assess sites, manage feasibility studies, and drive land acquisition and land‑use strategies.
• Oversee environmental, regulatory, land and permitting processes to keep projects on schedule.
• Manage grid interconnection applications, studies and negotiations with utilities.
• Structure and negotiate Power Purchase Agreements (PPAs) and offtake contracts.
• Collaborate with investment teams on financial modelling, investment readiness and project viability.
• Prepare development budgets, forecasts, reporting and risk registers.
• Build and maintain relationships with government agencies, utilities, communities and regulators.
• Coordinate consultants for technical studies, environmental and social assessments and permitting.
• Work closely with engineering and implementation teams to ensure projects are technically and commercially ready.
• Identify and mitigate development risks throughout the project lifecycle.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Engineering, Renewable Energy, Environmental Management, Business or related field.
• 7–12 years of experience in large‑scale renewable energy project development.
• Proven track record delivering utility‑scale solar PV and/or BESS projects of 50 MW+ to financial close.
• Experience in African or other emerging markets.
• Strong negotiation, stakeholder management and problem‑solving abilities.
