Senior Scientist – Gender Expertise

About the role

The World Agroforestry Centre (ICRAF) is seeking a Senior Scientist with deep expertise in gender to lead and enhance research on natural resource management across multiple regions. The role combines scientific leadership, project coordination, and partnership development to advance gender‑responsive agroforestry solutions.

Key responsibilities

• Provide scientific guidance ensuring research concepts and methods meet the highest standards.
• Collaborate with theme coordinators to define and implement emerging research activities.
• Lead the preparation, supervision, and dissemination of peer‑reviewed publications and other scientific communications.
• Supervise and mentor junior scientists, students, and staff, and oversee capacity‑building initiatives.
• Represent CIFOR in national, regional, and global forums on forest governance and gender issues.
• Develop and maintain constructive partnerships with stakeholders and pursue additional research funding.
• Plan, monitor, and report on research activities, including budgeting and donor reporting.

Required profile

• PhD in a relevant discipline (e.g., social sciences, natural resource management).
• Proven experience in collaborative natural‑resource or social‑science research, preferably with a multi‑regional focus.
• Track record of successful budget management and securing donor funding.
• Strong publication record in peer‑reviewed journals.
• Fluent spoken and written English; additional international language(s) advantageous.
• Demonstrated ability to work effectively with multiple partners and multicultural, multidisciplinary teams.
