Skills Lab Technician

About the role

The Skills Lab Technician will manage the daily operations of the medical skills laboratory, working closely with faculty to create realistic clinical training environments. This role ensures that students gain hands‑on experience with high‑fidelity simulators and medical equipment in a safe, well‑maintained setting.

Key responsibilities

• Arrange anatomical models, task trainers, medical devices and consumables for demonstrations, practice sessions and exams.
• Configure and program clinical simulators to deliver scenario‑specific physiological responses.
• Design and apply realistic medical moulage to enhance scenario authenticity.
• Guide students in the safe operation of advanced medical technologies and provide technical mentorship.
• Support faculty during high‑stakes practical evaluations such as OSCEs.
• Maintain accurate inventory records, conduct preventative maintenance, safety testing and basic troubleshooting of equipment.
• Forecast procurement needs and draft requisitions for upcoming academic terms.
• Enforce occupational health and safety standards and manage laboratory scheduling and utilization analytics.

Required profile

• Diploma or degree in Medical Laboratory Technology.
• Minimum of 2 years experience managing an academic skills lab.
• Valid professional registration/license from the relevant regulatory body.
