Substation Control Technician – High Voltage Operations

About the role

Tatu City is seeking a Substation Control Technician to operate, maintain and repair high‑voltage electric substations and associated equipment. Working under the Power Engineer, the technician will also manage the control room and SCADA system while participating in on‑call standby rotations.

Key responsibilities

• Prepare and maintain substation maintenance reports, logbooks and daily operating logs.
• Monitor station equipment via meters, gauges and switchboard instruments, performing corrective actions as needed.
• Execute switching operations, load and voltage adjustments, and emergency procedures following standard operating protocols.
• Inspect and service transformers, generators, pumps, motor‑generator sets and other rotating machinery.
• Issue protective tags, conduct minor repairs, and ensure security and proper lubrication of all plant assets.

Required profile

• Diploma or higher diploma in Electrical Engineering (power option).
• Valid C1 EPRA License with KETRACO or KPLC authorization classes.
• Minimum five years of experience in high‑voltage substation operation, maintenance and testing (11/33/66 kV networks).

Required skills

• Operation of SCADA and electric control room systems.
• High‑voltage equipment handling and switching procedures.
• Experience with indoor 11 kV boards, breakers and load‑break breaker installation.
• Ability to perform substation testing, annual maintenance and primary/secondary injections.
• Strong diagnostic skills for locating and repairing electrical defects.
