Supermarket Stock Controller – Retail

About the role

The Supermarket Stock Controller will oversee inventory flow within a busy retail environment, ensuring accurate stock levels and timely replenishment. You will work closely with procurement, sales and store teams to maintain optimal product availability and minimise losses.

Key responsibilities

• Collect, compile and analyse daily sales and stock data to spot trends, shortages and overstock situations.
• Monitor inventory across all departments, perform cycle counts and full stock takes, and reconcile physical counts with system records.
• Investigate stock variances, identify root causes such as shrinkage or damages, and implement corrective actions.
• Update inventory data promptly in the system, including receipts, transfers and adjustments.
• Coordinate with procurement to place orders based on demand patterns and reorder levels.
• Verify goods received from suppliers, ensure correct documentation and quality checks.
• Enforce FIFO/FEFO rotation, manage slow‑moving items and support promotions or markdowns.
• Prepare daily, weekly and monthly inventory variance reports for management.

Required profile

• Diploma or degree in Procurement, Supply Chain Management or a related field.
• Minimum 2 years of experience as a Stock Controller in a busy supermarket.
• Strong analytical and numerical abilities.
• Attention to detail and ability to work under pressure.

Required skills

• Proficiency with inventory management systems.
• Advanced Microsoft Excel skills.
