Tailor for US Navy program

About the role

Amentum is seeking a skilled Tailor to provide professional clothing alteration, repair, and tailoring services for a unique US Navy program on Diego Garcia. You will work directly with service members and personnel, ensuring uniforms and personal garments meet exacting standards.

Key responsibilities

• Perform alterations such as resizing, hemming, mending, button replacement, and other garment adjustments.
• Measure and fit garments accurately to guarantee precise tailoring.
• Repair and restore damaged or worn clothing, maintaining high‑quality workmanship.
• Handle a variety of fabrics, including military uniforms, specialty clothing, and personal items.
• Operate and maintain sewing machines, irons, and other tailoring equipment safely.
• Maintain a clean, organized work area and keep records of completed work and inventory.
• Provide exceptional customer service, offering tailoring advice and ensuring client satisfaction.

Required profile

• Minimum 1 year of professional experience in clothing alteration and repair.
• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Valid passport with at least one year remaining and ability to obtain required visas.
• Ability to pass contract medical requirements and obtain facility credentials.
• Fluent English communication skills, both written and verbal.

Required skills

• Proficiency with sewing machines.
• Use of irons and common tailoring tools.
• Understanding of garment construction and fabric properties.
