Transport Accountant

About the role

The Transport Accountant will oversee the financial performance of the company’s fleet and logistics operations. This role combines accounting expertise with a deep understanding of transport cost structures to drive efficiency and savings.

Key responsibilities

• Analyse fleet requirements, utilisation and vehicle‑wise operating costs.
• Identify excess, idle and under‑utilised vehicles and recommend corrective actions.
• Conduct cost‑benefit analysis of owned versus rented fleet.
• Monitor fuel consumption, kilometres per litre and fuel costs.
• Control vehicle repairs, maintenance, tyre and battery expenses.
• Verify transporter invoices against contracts, rates, trips and supporting documents.
• Review employee vehicle usage and reimbursement claims.
• Manage accounting and reconciliation of import and logistics costs, including freight, customs, clearing, inland transport, demurrage and detention.
• Prepare monthly fleet and logistics MIS reports.
• Identify and implement opportunities for fleet, route, fuel, vendor and logistics cost optimisation.
• Maintain a transport cost‑saving tracker and quantify actual savings.
• Ensure accurate transport expense booking, accruals, provisions, reconciliations and month‑end closure.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, Logistics, Supply Chain Management or a related field.
• 5–7 years of relevant professional experience.
• CPA (K) or ACCA qualification is an advantage.
• Experience in FMCG, dairy or beverages preferred.
• Strong analytical, problem‑solving and stakeholder‑management abilities.
