Traveling Heavy Civil Project Manager

About the role

Independence Excavating is seeking a Traveling Heavy Civil Project Manager to lead large‑scale civil construction and demolition projects. The role involves full‑cycle project management, from initial budgeting and scheduling through to owner interaction and project close‑out, with extensive travel across job sites.

Key responsibilities

• Prepare, review and return submittals for manufactured items.
• Coordinate with Superintendent/Operations Manager to determine equipment and crew requirements.
• Assemble and maintain job cost codes, updating them regularly.
• Manage subcontractors and schedule material deliveries for major items.
• Review and approve subcontractor and supplier estimates and invoices.
• Negotiate, close and coordinate Extra Work Orders and Change Order Requests.
• Monitor production, resource utilization and job cost versus estimates to protect profit margins.
• Prepare monthly job cost and profit projections.

Required profile

• High School Diploma required; Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in a related field preferred.
• Minimum 5 years experience managing large commercial construction projects.
• Strong organizational ability to handle multiple tasks and documentation.
• Proven ability to build positive relationships with owners, engineers and government officials.
• Demonstrated competence in managing people, budgets, schedules and quality across multiple sites.
• Willingness and ability to travel up to 100% of the time.
