UICAP Mapping Technician – GIS & Utility Mapping

About the role

The UICAP Mapping Technician will support a US Navy program on Diego Garcia by maintaining accurate utility maps, schematics and one‑line diagrams. The role requires rapid updates to reflect as‑built conditions and close coordination with the Naval Support Facility utilities department.

Key responsibilities

• Update and maintain utility maps, schematics and one‑line diagrams within 10 calendar days of notification.
• Ensure all revisions include dates and comply with government documentation standards.
• Use NAVFAC ArcGIS to create and update GIS‑based utility system maps following the Data Collection Guide.
• Export AutoCAD drawings from GIS datasets and maintain proper formatting.
• Maintain features with the latest NAVFAC NDM version and ensure data quality aligns with NAVFAC and NSF standards.
• Provide updated maps and diagrams on request with immediate turnaround.
• Submit documentation to the Technical Library and coordinate with NSF Diego Garcia Utilities Department.
• Perform quality assurance and control on GIS data and utility maps.

Required profile

• 1–3 years of experience in GIS mapping, utility mapping or technical drafting.
• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Valid passport with at least one year remaining and ability to pass contract medical requirements.
• Strong analytical and organizational skills with attention to detail.
• Proficiency in English (verbal and written).

Required skills

• Proficiency with NAVFAC ArcGIS software.
• Experience using AutoCAD for utility drawings.
• Knowledge of GIS data management and the Data Collection Guide requirements.
• Competence with Microsoft Office Suite.
