About the role

The Wage and Hour Specialist provides senior‑level expertise and advisory support to the Wage and Hour Division on complex, high‑visibility wage‑and‑hour policy matters, ensuring consistent interpretation and implementation across the agency.

Key responsibilities

• Serve as a recognized authority and senior advisor to Wage and Hour Division senior management on complex, high‑visibility wage‑and‑hour policy issues.
• Develop and author written products, opinion letters, and interpretive guidance that explain controversial agency policies and have nationwide impact.
• Lead and supervise staff in major research and exploratory studies, identify problems, and propose regulatory and policy options.
• Coordinate project timelines, assign responsibilities, and manage deliverables for policy development initiatives.
• Create authoritative interpretations of statutes, regulations, and program policies in response to legislative, judicial, or regulatory changes.
• Research technical program information, conduct fact‑finding, public hearings, and support rule‑making activities.

Required profile

• U.S. citizen, at least 16 years old.
• Must obtain required security/investigation clearance.
• 52 weeks of specialized experience equivalent to the GS‑13 grade level in the Federal Service.
• Individual Occupational Requirement (IOR) applicable.
• Demonstrated knowledge of federal wage‑and‑hour labor laws, industrial occupations, and salary administration.
• Proven ability to analyze written, verbal, and numerical data to make informed decisions.
• Strong interpersonal skills for explaining requirements and obtaining cooperation from diverse stakeholders.
