Water Plant Operator

About the role

The City of Public Works is seeking a skilled Water Plant Operator to manage the reverse‑osmosis (RO) water treatment facility. Reporting to the Chief Operator or Water Plant Director, you will ensure a safe, reliable drinking water supply for the community.

Key responsibilities

• Monitor and control the SCADA system, adjusting production and effluent flows.
• Collect water samples, perform laboratory analysis, and conduct calibration tests on chemical pumps.
• Maintain accurate operational logs and data entry into computer systems.
• Inspect pumps and motors for vibration, temperature, and leaks; perform corrective actions and report issues.
• Execute preventive maintenance, minor equipment repairs, and lubrication of motors and pumps.
• Operate camera surveillance and gate entry systems to secure the facility.
• Respond to after‑hours emergencies and participate in a paid on‑call rotation.
• Address customer inquiries related to water quality and service.

Required profile

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• At least one year of experience operating an RO water treatment plant.
• Valid Florida Class E driver’s license with an acceptable record.
• Minimum “C” Water Treatment Operator’s License issued by the Florida Department of Environmental Protection.
