Android Systems Engineer

About the role

The Android Systems Engineer will design, test, and scale Android tablet platforms that deliver literacy and numeracy learning to children in low‑resource settings. Working closely with the Head of Technology, product teams, device manufacturers and external partners, you will ensure a reliable, secure and maintainable device experience across multiple hardware variants.

Key responsibilities

• Gather requirements from engineering, product, operations and manufacturing stakeholders.
• Design and implement maintainable Android firmware and bootloader/BSP architectures for diverse tablet models.
• Configure devices and manage long‑term maintainability, security patches and updates.
• Support component changes, especially MediaTek‑based devices, while preserving a consistent software experience.
• Contribute to Android application development and create diagnostics tooling that integrates tightly with the platform.
• Collaborate with contract manufacturers and industrial design partners to align hardware and software specifications.

Required profile

• Proven experience in Android systems or firmware engineering.
• Strong understanding of bootloader, BSP and device configuration processes.
• Ability to work across hardware variants and manage long‑term device maintenance.
• Experience collaborating with cross‑functional teams and external partners.
