Assistant Engineering Manager

About the role

The Assistant Engineering Manager supports the Engineering Manager in planning, coordinating and monitoring engineering, maintenance and utilities operations for a manufacturing plant. This role ensures safe, reliable and efficient plant performance while providing technical leadership and continuity during the manager’s absence.

Key responsibilities

• Support the Engineering Manager in planning and monitoring engineering and maintenance activities to maximise equipment reliability.
• Assist in the execution of engineering projects, ensuring delivery within approved budgets, timelines and specifications.
• Deputise for the Engineering Manager during absences, coordinating day‑to‑day engineering operations.
• Coordinate preventive, predictive and corrective maintenance programmes to minimise downtime.
• Monitor performance indicators and drive initiatives to improve equipment availability and plant efficiency.
• Prepare, monitor and control engineering budgets, maintenance costs and resource utilisation.
• Process material requisitions for spare parts, tools and equipment to ensure timely availability.
• Engage with suppliers and supervise contractors to guarantee quality, cost‑effectiveness and contractual compliance.
• Investigate equipment failures, conduct root‑cause analysis and implement corrective actions.
• Identify opportunities for process optimisation, energy efficiency and cost reduction.

Required profile

• Mid‑level professional with approximately 5 years of relevant engineering experience.
• Strong background in plant engineering, maintenance planning and project coordination.
• Proven ability to support senior engineering leadership and act as a functional deputy.
• Experience in budget preparation, cost control and resource management.
• Excellent analytical skills for performance monitoring and root‑cause investigations.
