About the role
The Assistant Fire Chief of Training will lead the development, management and delivery of fire and emergency response training for a multi‑national fire department supporting the US Navy on Diego Garcia. This position ensures operational readiness and compliance with fire service standards.
Key responsibilities
- Lead and manage the Fire and Emergency Services (F&ES) training program, aligning it with current fire service standards and certifications.
- Design and implement tailored training programs for a multi‑national workforce, covering classroom instruction, hands‑on exercises, drills and simulations.
- Supervise all aspects of firefighter training, evaluate performance during exercises and readiness drills, and provide feedback for continuous improvement.
- Ensure all personnel achieve and maintain fire service certifications (NFPA, DoD, Navy‑specific) and fulfill ongoing training requirements.
- Develop and maintain a schedule of required certification courses, ensuring contractual and regulatory compliance.
- Oversee procurement, maintenance and upkeep of training equipment and materials.
- Establish training policies, procedures and guidelines to ensure consistency and safety.
- Maintain detailed training records and prepare reports for audits, inspections and compliance purposes.
- Serve as primary liaison to external training organizations, certifying bodies and other stakeholders.
Required profile
- Minimum three years of experience leading an F&ES training section or division of comparable size.
- Certification as Assistant Chief of Operations and Fire Instructor III according to recognized fire service standards.
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Demonstrated experience developing and delivering comprehensive training programs for fire and emergency personnel.
- Strong communication, organizational and leadership abilities to mentor a diverse, multi‑national team.
- Ability to pass contract medical requirements and maintain compliance for the deployment duration.
- Eligibility to obtain and maintain facility credentials/authorization.
Required skills
- Knowledge of NFPA fire service standards.
- Fire Instructor III certification.
