Attorney Advisor

About the role

The Attorney Advisor provides expert legal analysis and guidance to support the planning, development, and implementation of Office of the Executive Office for Immigration Review (EOIR) projects and initiatives. This position ensures compliance with federal, state, and local legal requirements while shaping policy and operational guidance.

Key responsibilities

• Conduct legal research and analysis on program authorities, fiscal and administrative law, and other relevant legal issues.
• Monitor program compliance with applicable legal obligations and advise management teams.
• Draft interpretive legal and policy documents, including responses to inquiries from federal, state, local agencies, Congress, and the public.
• Provide guidance on complex immigration law questions and factual issues to support EOIR’s public resource portfolio.
• Review draft regulations, policy directives, operational concepts, and activities to ensure alignment with EOIR’s mission and policy objectives.

Required profile

• LL.B. or J.D. degree from an accredited law school.
• Active bar membership and licensure to practice law in any U.S. state, territory, or the District of Columbia.
• U.S. citizenship or nationality, with ability to pass background investigation, credit check, and drug test.
• At least two years of professional legal experience, including analysis of complex immigration issues, policy drafting, and effective oral and written communication with adjudicators and subject‑matter experts.
