Captain – Dry Bulk Vessel Management

About the role

The Captain serves as the senior management representative on board, overseeing the safe and efficient operation of a dry‑bulk vessel while safeguarding the corporation’s commercial interests.

Key responsibilities

• Maintain the safety of the crew and ensure safe navigation and operation of the vessel.
• Protect the owner’s commercial interests and manage vessel performance.
• Exercise overriding authority for safety and pollution‑prevention decisions.
• Ensure compliance with the Canada Shipping Act, Canada Labour Code, and company policies.
• Lead the implementation of the vessel’s Safety Management System.

Required profile

• Master Mariner (preferred) or Master with Near Coastal General Operator’s License (GOC).
• Minimum two years recent experience on tanker vessels.
• Experience with Safety Management Systems.
• Excellent leadership abilities and fluent English.

Required skills

• GLPA certificate (preferred).
• Ship Security Officer certification (preferred).
• STCW Basic Safety training.
• Proficiency in survival craft and rescue boat operations.
• Advanced fire‑fighting training.
• Marine medical personnel training with security duties.
