About the role
The Luke Hotel, a 182‑room 3‑star property in Westlands, Nairobi, is seeking a Chief Engineer to lead all engineering, maintenance and technical services. You will ensure reliable building systems, guest‑room functionality, safety compliance and cost‑effective operation of hotel assets.
Key responsibilities
- Lead engineering and maintenance activities across guest rooms, public areas, kitchens, laundry, conference facilities and back‑of‑house zones.
- Develop and execute preventive‑maintenance schedules for electrical, plumbing, HVAC, generators, pumps, lifts and other critical systems.
- Supervise Maintenance Technicians, coordinate pool technicians and external specialist contractors.
- Maintain rapid response and closure standards for guest‑room and operational defects.
- Monitor utility consumption and implement efficiency and cost‑saving initiatives.
- Prepare engineering budgets, maintenance plans, spare‑parts requirements and capital‑replacement recommendations.
- Ensure statutory inspection, safety, fire and technical compliance records are up‑to‑date.
- Coordinate planned shutdowns, emergency repairs and contractor work to minimise guest disruption.
- Support renovations, refurbishments, installations and capital projects with contractor supervision and quality checks.
- Promote safe work practices, permits, PPE usage and technical risk controls.
Required profile
- Diploma or Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Building Services, Electrical/Mechanical Engineering or a related field.
- 5–8 years of facilities/engineering experience, preferably in a hotel or comparable commercial property.
- Demonstrated supervisory experience with practical knowledge of electrical, plumbing, HVAC and building systems.
- Strong preventive‑maintenance planning, troubleshooting, contractor‑management and safety skills.
