Electrical Design Engineer

About the role

We are looking for an Electrical Design Engineer to join a leading renewable energy consulting firm in Nairobi. You will be responsible for the design and engineering of inverter stations, medium‑voltage substations, switching stations and utility metering systems for utility‑scale solar projects.

Key responsibilities

• Design cable, equipment, lighting, earthing and lightning layouts in CAD, including cable tray and trench sizing.
• Prepare single‑line diagrams, schematics and layout drawings for Main Control Rooms and Inverter Stations.
• Perform cable and control‑cable sizing calculations and length estimations.
• Develop underground raceway and trench designs and analyse their performance.
• Add new features to AutoCAD applications using plugins.
• Collaborate with internal teams, vendors and clients while ensuring compliance with national and international codes.
• Maintain awareness of new product technologies and contribute to SOP development.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Electrical or Electronics Engineering.
• 1–3 years of experience in solar PV design, substation or power‑system studies.
• Strong proficiency in AutoCAD and Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint).
• Knowledge of DC & AC engineering standards (IEC, NEC, IEEE, ANSI, SEC, IS).
• Experience in consultancy/EPC environments for utility‑scale solar projects is desirable.
• Willingness to travel for site visits domestically and internationally.
