Employee & Industrial Relations Manager

About the role

The Employee & Industrial Relations Manager reports to the Head of Human Resource, Kenya and is responsible for managing and maintaining positive relationships between Watu Credit Ltd and its employees. The role oversees employee relations, labour relations and ensures compliance with employment laws and regulations.

Key responsibilities

• Develop and implement strategies to foster positive employee‑business relationships, providing guidance on conflict resolution, performance management and engagement.
• Collaborate with HR and legal teams to create and update policies and procedures, ensuring alignment with laws, regulations and business objectives.
• Monitor and ensure compliance with employment legislation, labour contracts and occupational health & safety standards, addressing any non‑compliance issues.
• Handle employee grievances, complaints and disciplinary matters, conduct investigations and recommend appropriate actions.
• Advise senior management on complex employee relations issues and risk mitigation.
• Develop communication strategies for change management and deliver training on employee‑industrial relations topics.
• Build strong partnerships with business leaders, managers and employees to provide strategic HR guidance.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in law and a Diploma from the Kenya School of Law.
• Advocate of the High Court of Kenya with at least three years post‑admission experience.
• Minimum seven years of experience in employee and industrial relations.
• Strong knowledge of employee labour relations principles, employment law and regulations.
• Proven ability to design and execute programs that improve employee relations.
• High professionalism, confidentiality and ability to prioritize conflicting assignments.
