Engineering Technician – Road & Structure Projects

About the role

The Lyon County Engineer's Office is seeking a full‑time Engineering Technician to support planning, surveying, design, and inspection of road and structure projects. This position plays a key role in delivering safe and reliable transportation infrastructure for the county.

Key responsibilities

• Assist in the planning and design of roadways, bridges, and related structures.
• Conduct field surveys, material testing, sampling, and construction inspections.
• Prepare technical drawings, reports, and documentation for project records.
• Coordinate with contractors, consultants, and internal teams to ensure compliance with specifications and standards.
• Maintain project files and update status reports as required.

Required profile

• Minimum of an Associate Degree, Civil Engineering Technical Degree, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
• Ability to obtain Iowa Department of Transportation testing and inspection certifications.
• Valid Iowa driver’s license.
• Willingness to undergo pre‑employment drug, alcohol, and physical testing.

Required skills
