Financial Controller

About the role

Absa is seeking a Financial Controller to lead its finance team across the African region. The role combines strategic leadership, technical accounting expertise, and hands‑on oversight of financial controls, reporting, and audit processes.

Key responsibilities

• Provide leadership, coaching, and communication for the finance team.
• Oversee general ledger controls, month‑end close, and balance‑sheet reviews.
• Ensure compliance with IFRS/IAS, Central Bank regulations, and Group policies.
• Manage statutory audits, audit findings, and regulatory reporting.
• Lead cost‑control initiatives and support business partners on BAU and project costs.
• Maintain subsidiary balance sheets, profit & loss accounts, and creditors’ ledger.
• Chair the Balance Sheet Review Committee and drive continuous improvement of GL reconciliation processes.

Required profile

• Proven experience in financial control and reporting within a banking environment.
• Strong knowledge of IFRS, local banking regulations, and Group accounting policies.
• Ability to lead and develop finance teams, and to communicate effectively with senior management.
• Track record of managing audits and implementing risk‑based controls.
