Firefighter

About the role

The Firefighter protects lives and property by performing rescue, fire‑fighting, and hazardous‑materials operations. This role involves responding to fires, vehicle accidents, floods, bomb incidents, and chemical spills, often under stressful and hazardous conditions.

Key responsibilities

• Conduct search, rescue, and fire‑suppression activities for fires, accidents, floods, bomb incidents, and dangerous substance spills.
• Operate emergency response vehicles, hand and power tools, ladders, hoses, pumps, foam generators, and nozzle systems.
• Perform salvage and overhaul operations to minimize damage.
• Participate in station drills, emergency‑procedure training, and hazardous‑materials response.
• Maintain certifications and licenses required for fire‑fighting and specialized operations.

Required profile

• Minimum of one year of fire‑fighting experience.
• High school diploma or equivalent; Associate’s degree preferred.
• Current state driver’s license and ability to obtain required certifications.
• Physical ability to perform interior structural firefighting and work in remote, uncomfortable conditions.

Required skills

• Operate emergency response vehicles and driver‑operator equipment (Pumper, ARFF, MWS).
• Use hand and power tools for ventilation, ladder placement, and hose handling.
• Operate pumps, foam generators, boom and ground‑sweep nozzles.
• Respond to hazardous‑materials emergencies.
• Hold Telecommunicator I and II certificates (preferred).
