FTTH Installation & Support Technician

About the role

Our client, a leading telecommunications organization, is looking for an experienced FTTH Installation & Support Technician to join the technical team in Nairobi. You will be responsible for delivering high‑quality fiber connectivity, ensuring network reliability and providing excellent customer support.

Key responsibilities

• Install, maintain, and repair overhead and underground fiber optic feeder, distribution, and drop cables.
• Install and maintain indoor/outdoor fiber access terminals, joint boxes, and distribution pedestals.
• Perform fiber splicing and cable termination to create secure connections.
• Test and troubleshoot fiber networks using OTDRs and other equipment.
• Diagnose and resolve technical faults onsite and remotely while supporting customers.
• Conduct GPS‑enabled site surveys and interpret network design drawings.
• Carry out preventive maintenance to optimise performance.
• Maintain accurate records of installations, maintenance, equipment, and inventory.
• Prepare technical reports using Microsoft Office.
• Ensure compliance with industry standards and safety procedures.

Required profile

• Diploma in Telecommunications, Electrical Engineering or related field.
• Minimum 2 years hands‑on experience in fiber optic installation and maintenance.
• Professional certifications such as CFOT or FOA are a plus.
• Valid Class BCE driving licence.
• Ability to lift equipment, work at heights, in confined spaces and in varied environments.
• Willingness to work flexible hours.

Required skills

• Fusion and mechanical fiber splicing.
• OTDR testing and use of power meters, VFLs, fusion splicers.
• Structured cabling standards and network infrastructure knowledge.
• Basic electrical installation and safety awareness.
• Interpretation of technical drawings and network diagrams.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint.
