About the role

The Head of Business Origination will lead the development and execution of the credit origination strategy for KCB Bank Kenya, aligning it with the broader Corporate Banking and Group objectives. This senior role is responsible for driving profitable credit growth while managing risk and ensuring compliance with regulatory standards.

Key responsibilities

• Develop and implement credit origination strategy in line with Corporate Banking and KCB Group goals.
• Evaluate credit appetite, structure, tenor, and risk‑return relationship, and assess effectiveness of risk mitigants.
• Make sound decisions on applications within delegated sanctioning authority.
• Analyze credit applications to ensure alignment with the Bank’s Credit Appetite and deal profitability.
• Identify and manage high‑risk accounts, taking corrective action when risk profiles become unacceptable.
• Oversee performance of facilities booked in Kenya from other KCB Group subsidiaries, ensuring they remain performing.
• Monitor covenants to guarantee compliance with approved terms.
• Present applications to relevant credit committees or delegated evaluators.
• Ensure compliance with AML, sanctions, and other regulatory requirements, including enhanced due diligence where needed.
• Support relationship managers in negotiating term sheets and structuring deals that meet credit policies.
• Champion consistent, seamless customer service to drive retention and loyalty, and lead improvements in service delivery and query resolution.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree (preferably in Finance or Business); Master’s degree preferred.
• Professional qualifications such as Certificate in Commercial Credit, CPA, ACCA, CFA or AKIB.
• Minimum 10 years of experience in the financial sector with strong background in credit origination, risk management and portfolio management.
• Demonstrated commercial acumen, sector knowledge, leadership abilities and project management experience.
