Hotel Accountant

About the role

We are seeking a reliable Hotel Accountant to join the finance team of our three‑star hotel. Reporting to the General Manager and the Chief Finance Officer, you will ensure accurate daily sales and cash reconciliations, timely banking of cash, and proper posting of POS transactions.

Key responsibilities

• Perform daily sales and cash reconciliations, ensuring cash received is banked promptly.
• Verify accurate posting of sales from POS to Microsoft Dynamics NAV (Navision).
• Compute food and beverage costs, collaborate with GM/Chef to set menu margins, and support menu costing for events.
• Maintain and update the fixed asset register, handling acquisitions and disposals per policy.
• Prepare monthly bank reconciliation statements and submit them to the CFO by the 5th of the following month.
• Monitor revenue leakage, unauthorized discounts, and ensure all frontline staff reconcile their cash within 24 hours.
• Validate and reconcile supplier invoices before payment.
• Send daily sales and cash reconciliation reports, including guest deposit details.
• Ensure timely payment of utility bills, licenses, permits, and avoid service disruptions.
• Produce monthly income & expenditure (P&L) statements and aged payables listings for the CFO.
• Conduct monthly stock‑taking with the stock controller for inventory and fixed assets, analysing variances.
• Undertake any additional tasks assigned by the GM or CFO.

Required profile

• Fully qualified accountant (CPA[K]) with a bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, commerce or a BCom with CPA 2.
• Minimum two years of experience in the hotel or hospitality sector, preferably in a senior or managerial accounting role.

Required skills

• Proficiency with Microsoft Dynamics NAV (Navision) ERP.
• Experience using point‑of‑sale (POS) systems.
• Strong bank reconciliation and cash handling skills.
• Knowledge of fixed‑asset accounting and inventory stock‑taking.
• Ability to prepare accurate financial reports (P&L, aged payables).
