Human Resource Business Partner

About the role

The Human Resource Business Partner will work closely with business leaders, managers and employees in Nairobi and Mombasa to align HR practices with the company’s strategic objectives. Reporting to the Head of HR, this fixed‑term role focuses on driving performance, compliance and talent initiatives that support Watu Credit’s mission to empower entrepreneurs.

Key responsibilities

• Partner with senior leadership to develop and implement HR strategies that support business goals and workforce planning.
• Design and oversee performance management processes, including objective setting, evaluations and performance improvement plans.
• Develop, communicate and monitor HR policies to ensure fairness, equity and compliance with Kenyan labour laws.
• Lead talent management activities such as recruitment, succession planning, learning and development, and employee engagement.
• Provide data‑driven insights by tracking HR metrics, preparing dashboards and reporting on key performance indicators.
• Support change‑management initiatives, including communication plans and training for organizational transitions.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Administration, Management or a related field.
• Minimum 7 years of HR experience, including at least 2 years in a Business Partner or similar strategic role.
• Professional HR certification and membership of the Institute of Human Resource Management.
• Strong confidentiality, professionalism and ability to manage multiple priorities.

Required skills

• Proficiency with HRMIS systems (basic management and usage).
• Advanced skills in MS Office for reporting and data analysis.
