Medical Case Intern

About the role

The Medical Case Intern will provide financial and technical support for the management of medically‑related assistance and insurance client service requests. This includes data recording, cost compilation and report generation for AMREF Flying Doctors' Medical Assistance Services.

Key responsibilities

• Follow up daily invoices from service providers, upload them to the M‑files portal and process payments.
• Validate high‑value invoices, seek clarification on incorrect billing and conduct cost‑containment measures.
• Compile service cost lists and generate interim pro‑forma cost estimates for billing.
• Produce final cost estimates for closed cases, especially during month‑end periods.
• Resolve billing queries and patient refund requests from assistance partners.
• Assist the Payables team with reconciliation of provider statements, particularly for top‑tier hospitals.
• Answer telephone calls in the Control Room and respond to clients professionally.
• Participate in departmental meetings and provide general administrative support such as ordering office supplies.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in commerce (Accounting/Finance) with at least CPA Part 1 or equivalent.
• Strong verbal and written communication skills and excellent customer‑service orientation.
• Ability to interpret, analyse and present data accurately.
• Detail‑oriented, flexible and able to meet deadlines in a 24‑hour operational environment.

Required skills

• Proficiency with the MS Office Suite.
• Knowledge of an accounting system.
• Familiarity with data‑collection methods.
• Experience using a Customer Relationship Management (CRM) system.
