About the role
The International Rescue Committee is seeking a qualified Medical Officer to lead the clinical services of its hospital. The role involves delivering high‑quality patient care across multiple wards, supervising medical staff, and ensuring the hospital operates efficiently in a humanitarian setting.
Key responsibilities
- Oversee daily patient care in all hospital wards (maternity, medical, paediatrics, isolation) and ensure timely attendance to emergencies, both medical and surgical.
- Manage and supervise nursing, laboratory, pharmacy and health‑post staff, and act as the clinical program lead when the Health Manager is absent.
- Conduct daily ward rounds, elective and emergency obstetric/gynecological surgeries, and other surgical cases in theatre.
- Run weekly specialised clinics (SOPC, GOPC, HRC, MOPC, POPC) and serve as the on‑call doctor 24 hours a day, seven days a week.
- Complete medical‑legal documentation (P3 forms), attend court sessions, and provide care for survivors of sexual assault in the GBV centre.
- Coordinate referrals to secondary and tertiary facilities and lead death‑audit sessions to improve quality of care.
- Participate in clinical staff meetings, provide programme updates, and support continuous medical education for the team.
Required profile
- Medical degree with a valid licence to practice medicine.
- Proven experience in hospital management and supervision of multidisciplinary clinical teams.
- Competence in emergency, surgical, obstetric and paediatric care.
- Familiarity with medical‑legal procedures and documentation.
- Ability to work in a high‑pressure humanitarian environment and lead continuous improvement initiatives.
