Network Engineer – Entry Level Internship

About the role

ITGuru Systems Limited is looking for an enthusiastic entry‑level Network Engineer to join our team on an internship basis. You will support client network environments across Nairobi and surrounding regions, gaining hands‑on experience with routing, switching, firewalls and virtualization technologies.

Key responsibilities

• Assist in the installation, configuration, and maintenance of client networks, including routers, switches, firewalls and wireless access points.
• Provide day‑to‑day help‑desk support and remote or on‑site troubleshooting for IT issues.
• Monitor network performance, respond to alerts and incidents, and document changes.
• Support basic firewall administration (e.g., FortiGate, MikroTik) under supervision.
• Assist with server and virtualization tasks in Windows Server, Active Directory, VMware or Hyper‑V environments.
• Help with backup, email infrastructure and cybersecurity‑related activities.
• Travel to client sites in Mombasa and occasionally other regions as required.
• Escalate complex issues to senior engineers and follow through to resolution.

Required profile

• Diploma or Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, Networking or a related field.
• Basic understanding of networking fundamentals such as TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP, VLANs and routing/switching concepts.
• Familiarity with Windows Server and/or Active Directory is a plus.
• Exposure to firewalls, switches or wireless equipment (MikroTik, FortiGate, Ubiquiti, Cisco, etc.) is advantageous.
• Willingness to learn, strong problem‑solving skills and a professional client‑facing attitude.
• Valid driving licence is an added advantage for site visits.
