Part-time Library Assistant

About the role

The County of Elgin is seeking a Part‑time Library Assistant to support the day‑to‑day operations of its public library system, including youth programming across its Belmont and Springfield branches.

Key responsibilities

• Assist patrons with locating materials and using library resources.
• Support the planning and delivery of youth programming activities.
• Maintain circulation, shelving, and inventory of library collections.
• Provide front‑desk service, including answering calls and handling inquiries.
• Perform on‑call duties as needed for both Belmont and Springfield locations.

Required profile

• Post‑secondary training or experience in a library setting (preferred).
• Strong customer‑service orientation and ability to work independently.
• Flexibility to cover scheduled and on‑call hours.

Required skills

• Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications.
• Ability to navigate internet/web browsers.

What we offer

• Permanent part‑time position with union representation (CUPE).
• Hourly wage ranging from $22.32 to $27.23 as per collective agreement.
• 10 scheduled hours per week plus additional on‑call hours.
