About the role
The Protection Associate will lead structured case management services for refugees and asylum seekers experiencing psychosocial distress. This role combines assessment, planning, referrals, and follow‑up to ensure timely, confidential support while embedding mental health and psychosocial support (MHPSS) principles into broader protection interventions.
Key responsibilities
- Conduct intake assessments and vulnerability screenings, develop individualized case plans.
- Make timely referrals to appropriate services and monitor client progress.
- Document case information in the case management system, ensuring confidentiality and data protection.
- Maintain and update service mapping and referral pathways.
- Identify clients needing specialized mental health care and coordinate referrals.
- Integrate basic psychosocial support into case management for a trauma‑informed approach.
- Participate in outreach to identify vulnerable individuals and facilitate access to services.
- Collaborate with protection teams to provide holistic support, including for violence and child protection risks.
- Build relationships with partners, community structures, and service providers to strengthen referral systems.
- Prepare accurate reports on case activities, trends, and service gaps.
Required profile
- A degree in psychology, sociology, social work, community development or a related field.
- 1–2 years of experience in case management within MHPSS or protection programming.
- Experience working with refugees or vulnerable populations is preferred.
- Knowledge of case management principles, IASC MHPSS guidelines, safeguarding frameworks, and Accountability to Affected Populations.
Required skills
- Understanding of case management systems and data protection standards.
- Familiarity with referral pathway mapping.
- Ability to conduct psychosocial assessments and develop case plans.
