Public Works Engineer I – Transportation & Facilities

About the role

The Town of Colchester is seeking a Public Works Engineer I with a primary focus on transportation and facilities. This entry‑level position applies civil engineering principles to the planning, design, and oversight of smaller‑scale construction projects that support the community’s infrastructure.

Key responsibilities

• Assist in the design and review of transportation and facility projects.
• Conduct site inspections and ensure compliance with applicable codes and standards.
• Prepare technical reports, drawings, and specifications.
• Coordinate with contractors, consultants, and internal departments throughout project lifecycles.
• Support budgeting, scheduling, and project documentation.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering or a closely related field.
• Two years of related experience preferred; combinations of education and experience considered.
• Valid driver’s license.
• Strong analytical abilities and excellent written and oral communication skills.
