Remote Mechanical Engineer – System Architecture

About the role

We are looking for a Mechanical Engineer to provide expert technical guidance on system architecture, troubleshoot complex issues, and optimise performance across distributed systems. This fully remote contract role allows you to work from anywhere while collaborating with product, engineering and operations teams.

Key responsibilities

• Design and evaluate scalable system architectures that meet evolving business and technical requirements.
• Diagnose and resolve high‑priority production issues with minimal downtime.
• Develop and document engineering best practices, standards and guidelines for cross‑team adoption.
• Collaborate with product, engineering and operations teams to align technical solutions with business objectives.
• Mentor junior engineers and conduct code reviews to ensure quality and security standards.

Required profile

• Proven experience with distributed systems, microservices or large‑scale backend infrastructure.
• Strong problem‑solving abilities and a track record of resolving complex technical challenges.
• Excellent written communication for clear technical documentation and architectural decisions.

Required skills

• Python, Java, Go or Rust programming.
• Cloud platforms such as AWS, GCP or Azure.
• Containerisation tools: Docker and Kubernetes.
• Experience with distributed systems and microservices architectures.
