Research Assistant – Data Collection

About the role

The Mobilizing Action for Meaningful, Empowered Beginnings (MaMEB) project seeks Research Assistants to support a baseline assessment across Nairobi, Kisumu and Turkana counties. The role involves gathering quantitative and qualitative data to inform programme implementation aimed at improving children’s learning and protection outcomes.

Key responsibilities

• Conduct face‑to‑face interviews, focus group discussions and surveys with beneficiaries and stakeholders.
• Collect quantitative data using digital tools such as KOBO Collect.
• Accurately transcribe interview and focus group recordings.
• Organise and manage collected data to ensure reliability.
• Maintain clear documentation of all research activities and attend de‑brief meetings.
• Protect and account for all project equipment.
• Participate in the mandatory training workshop for Research Assistants.

Required profile

• University degree or diploma in Social Science or a related field.
• Proven experience in both qualitative and quantitative data collection.
• Experience conducting in‑depth interviews and focus group discussions.
• Fluent in English and Kiswahili; local language proficiency is an advantage.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
