Senior eCommerce Engineer (Contract)

About the role

We are seeking a highly experienced senior eCommerce engineer to lead and deliver a complex enterprise commerce project on a contract basis. The role requires independent ownership of the full technical workstream, from planning through production release, with limited day‑to‑day supervision.

Key responsibilities

• Develop, enhance, and maintain enterprise eCommerce functionality using HCL Commerce or IBM WebSphere Commerce.
• Design and implement Java‑based services and REST APIs that integrate the commerce platform with external applications, internal systems, and third‑party services.
• Support and improve customer‑facing storefront components using React, JavaScript, and integrate with WordPress or similar CMS platforms.
• Write, review, and optimise SQL queries, troubleshoot data issues, and ensure reliable data movement.
• Improve Git workflows, CI/CD pipelines, and use monitoring tools such as Dynatrace to identify performance bottlenecks and production risks.
• Provide technical recommendations, communicate trade‑offs, review code, and guide other developers or stakeholders.

Required profile

• Senior‑level developer capable of quickly understanding an existing application environment.
• Proven ability to identify technical gaps, propose practical solutions, and execute end‑to‑end delivery.
• Comfortable explaining complex technical topics clearly and raising risks early.
