About the role
The United Nations Human Settlements Programme (UN‑Habitat) is seeking a Statistician for its Data and Statistics Unit within the Knowledge & Innovation Branch. The incumbent will support the generation, analysis and dissemination of urban and housing data to inform policy, monitoring of SDG 11 and the New Urban Agenda.
Key responsibilities
- Initiate and coordinate development of methods for obtaining relevant urban and housing data.
- Develop and apply digital technologies for data collection, analysis and dissemination.
- Ensure data quality, accuracy, consistency and comparability.
- Plan and conduct analytical programmes, including project identification, analysis and technical advisory for capacity building.
- Supervise development of databases, web‑publishing tools and software for statistical data storage and distribution.
- Undertake methodological research on standards, concepts and classifications.
- Develop new statistical methods, quantitative models and projections.
- Provide guidance to departments and field experts on statistical programmes.
- Organise seminars, workshops and expert meetings and manage the assigned section’s work.
Required profile
- Advanced university degree (Master’s) in statistics, mathematics, economics, sociology, demography or related field.
- Minimum seven years of progressively responsible experience in statistics, data analysis and urban/housing indicators.
- Demonstrated experience in capacity‑building projects and conducting training workshops.
- Professional competence in analytical, drafting, reporting and presentation skills.
- Ability to work effectively in a multicultural environment and incorporate gender perspectives.
Required skills
- Statistical analysis and quantitative modelling.
- Database development and management.
- Data visualization using graphs, charts and interactive tools.
