Supervisor – Base Communications Office (BCO)

About the role

The Supervisor BCO will lead the installation, operation, and maintenance of the Base Telecommunications Distribution System for a U.S. Navy program on Diego Garcia. This position requires deep technical expertise, industry certifications, and the ability to manage a team of communications personnel.

Key responsibilities

• Lead installation and operation of the Base Telecommunications Distribution System and its components, including switch operations, switchboard operations, inside‑plant telephone switch maintenance, and customer premise cabling.
• Maintain and operate outside‑plant fiber‑optic and copper cable infrastructure.
• Supervise, train, and evaluate personnel responsible for communications system upkeep.
• Monitor system performance, verify proper installation, testing, and documentation of all telecommunications components.
• Ensure compliance with BICSI Registered Technician certification or higher and maintain additional equipment‑manufacturer certifications.
• Conduct scheduled inspections, service calls, and preventive maintenance to sustain optimal system functionality.
• Manage resources throughout the lifecycle of communications infrastructure, including repairs, upgrades, and testing.
• Troubleshoot technical issues promptly and produce detailed technical reports and records.

Required profile

• Proven experience managing and maintaining complex telecommunications systems.
• Demonstrated supervisory experience overseeing technical staff.
• BICSI Registered Technician Level certification or higher.
• Industry‑specific or manufacturer‑approved certifications for telecommunications equipment.
