Tug Master

About the role

Amentum is seeking an experienced Tug Master to operate tug vessels in support of large merchant and naval ship movements around Diego Garcia. The role ensures safe navigation, vessel handling, and coordination with port authorities and Navy personnel.

Key responsibilities

• Oversee safe navigation and operation of assigned tug vessels.
• Manage and lead all tug operations, ensuring compliance with international and local maritime regulations.
• Supervise crew members and ensure proper execution of daily onboard functions.
• Handle, maneuver, and assist large commercial and naval vessels during docking and undocking.
• Communicate effectively with port authorities, vessel captains, and other personnel.
• Submit qualifications to the Contracting Officer Representative (COR) for approval prior to start.
• Collaborate with designated alternates to maintain continuity of operations and vessel safety.
• Maintain a culture of safety, security, and operational excellence onboard.

Required profile

• Certification by the appropriate regulatory body for the vessel flag (e.g., USCG for US‑flagged vessels).
• 3‑5 years of experience operating tug vessels in maritime environments.
• Fluency in English with strong verbal and written communication skills.
• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Valid passport (minimum one‑year validity) and ability to travel internationally.
• Ability to pass contract medical requirements and maintain them for the deployment duration.
